My Story
True life is lived when tiny changes occur.
~Leo Tolstoy ************* Hello... I am so glad you have visited my website and are interested in learning more about me. So here goes... this isn't an easy aspect for me but I can't expect you to share if I can't.. right!! FYI-- I can be long winded and I blame that on my legal studies degree.. LOL .. all those reports and forms etc., so bear with me... I promise there is a point to this section...
Here is the thing-- most in my field are taught general aspects so that we can help a wide group of people in need of our services. For me that's Integrative Functional Nutrition and Health & Wellness Coaching-- so I can coach life skills, health & wellness techniques to medical nutrition therapy and so on within the scope of these two fields and the laws of each state. So no matter where you are I can help...However there is more to this as I have learned and have been evolving beyond....it's never easy to change especially after years of doing something that way over and over again. And that's what I have been doing... What I have learned from those that have been in this field for a long time is to evolve my practice into a "niche" or specialty. Basically, this is something that I am passionate about and can become an expert on. It's interesting how niches work and where they can take you... doesn't mean I can't still work with anyone that needs my services because I can, so don't think I can't or won't help those outside my niche .. because I will, it just means I am specializing towards a particular community and working my way to becoming an expert in that field. This is my journey to my niche and where I am- See when I first started to hear and learn about niches I thought it would be COPD/Lung health because of my mother, whom had this incurable disease and it was our goal to work together to help others with it. And it was a great goal and one I will still help others with in my scope of practice in her honor... And even though it's still a passion of mine...it's not where I am going. Funny how that works.. huh? I was shocked for sure... my crossroads came in July 2020... Now you are probably wondering where my journey to my niche has taken me?? It's something that you may have experienced yourself or know someone like a family member that has experienced it -- addiction also known as substance abuse disorder and/or mental health. Yup. I have experience with these in various ways throughout my life from family to friends to even myself. It's not an area that is usually focused on and I feel that's due to the stigma that occurs around these two aspects in our society. If it wasn't for the fact that I, teach nutrition and integrative techniques to those in recovery I probably won't have looked at this as a possible niche and definitely won't have realized my passion to work with those in recovery and/or living with mental health diagnoses. Really quick-- Let me ask you-- What is the first few things you think about when these topics come to mind?? Most people don’t think about nutrition when they enter treatment for addiction and/or mental health. They think of withdrawal and medications. They think of counseling sessions or group therapy. People in recovery and/or therapy talk about following the 12 steps or care plans while trying to find their purpose in life or developing a relationship with a higher power. All important aspects for recovery and learning about mental health and living with either.. and at the same time so is eating healthy which is rarely mentioned or incorporated in the treatment for those with substance abuse disorder and/or mental health. By incorporating healthy eating and techniques to deal with sleep, stress etc., can sustain a person's recovery long term and can help sustain one's mental health via moods and behaviors while limiting depletion from medications prescribed and beyond. This is just the tip of the iceberg so if any of this resonates with you-- REACH out TODAY! Would love to help you heal and nourish your body during your recovery and/or mental health journey. Food is medicine and is a very powerful tool.... With Gratitude, Linnette |
