It’s that time of year for the flu and common cold along with now the Coronavirus (Covid-19).  
 
Now I could bore you with information on how this is an RNA virus along with the causes, symptoms and signs. However, I think most of you are aware what is going on and have this information as much as possible at this point. Just make sure you are getting your information from the CDC or from official sites such as this link below- https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd402994 23467b48e9ecf6.

Furthermore, I have to say it—having toilet paper is great because we do need to use it however it’s not what we need to be focusing on so please stop hoarding toilet paper and step away from that aisle…yes you!

Now that I have gotten through the information above I want to share with you a few things that I have learned as a Nutrition Student and Health & Wellness Coach--
Okay, here it is- are you ready?

USING FOOD AS MEDICINE!!

YES, you read that correctly.  Now I am stepping up on the “soapbox” with this post—food, herbs and even spices can help with keeping you and your family healthy—hoping to provide more soon on this in more specific ways. However for today, I am keeping this simple and to the point-

Food is what helps communicate and heal you from the inside out— again keep calm and don’t hoard because others will be in need of these things too….

Foods we should be concerned about and maintaining in our households now and on a normal basis are:
  1. Key Nutrients such as fruits and vegetables—especially root vegetables and frozen fruits and vegetables because they will keep longer… along with dried beans etc.
  2. Feeding our microbiome- probiotics such as yogurt, mushrooms etc
  3. Antioxidants- dark chocolate, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kale etc.
  4. Intermittent fasting- allowing our systems to digest and rest.
  5. Balance of good fats- coconut oil, olive oil, avocados etc
  6. Antimicrobial foods- cinnamon, turmeric, honey, wine etc
Foods we should limit or avoid- Sugar, Processed foods, Salt, Trans Fats and Low Nutrient Dense Foods, High Calorie Foods and Pesticide ridden foods.

Well, stopping here for today… hoping to post more soon.. and don’t want to provide too much to fast because we already have a lot that is overwhelming—so KEEP CALM AND BREATHE!
