DIY Spray Hand Sanitizer

Wash your hands first but if you can't then sanitize. However, with nearly every store and online retailer are out of sanitizer. Not to worry, we can make our own!

Ingredients:
Spray bottle
2 tbsp Isopropyl alcohol (70-90%) OR high proof vodka like Everclear
2 tbsp Aloe gel OR Glycerin
10-20 drops Essential Oils

To make:
In a mixing bowl, add isopropyl alcohol (or Everclear), aloe gel (or glycerin), and 10-20 drops of essential oils.  Mix with a spoon and funnel the mixture into your spray bottle.  Shake and spray!

Ingredient notes:
Isopropyl alcohol OR Everclear is the disinfectant
Aloe gel OR glycerin is the moisturizer (alcohol is very drying to the skin!)

*If you do not have aloe gel or glycerin, using isopropyl alcohol/vodka and essential oils is fine. Follow up with lotion as alcohol will dry out your skin*

Essential oils:
Thieves oil is my favorite for cleaning and disinfecting. Thieves is a blend of cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary. There are stories and legends about this blend of oils that date back to the Bubonic Plague.

If you do not have thieves oil, use any oils you have on hand! Some individual and combinations below:
Lavender - blends well with rosemary and tea tree
Rosemary - blends well with lavender, frankincense and lemon
Lemon - blends well with grapefruit and rosemary
Tea Tree - blends well with lavender
Grapefruit - beautiful on its own or blends well with lavender, rosemary, frankincense
Frankincense - blends well with lavender, rosemary, grapefruit and lemon

***COVID-19 Disclaimer: This hand sanitizer is NOT a substitute for proper hand washing. This home remedy does contain commonly-accepted natural antiviral ingredients AND it has never been tested in a lab to determine it’s efficacy against viruses such as COVID-19. Please continue to wash your hands multiple times per day for a minimum of 30 seconds.
